Your Wine Diva

Don’t Cry Over Spilled Red Wine

If your gatherings are anything like those Your Diva attends, there is a good probability that you have had an unfortunate accident with red wine, which seems to be magnetically attracted to anything white.  Surely you have witnessed an entire room go silent, everyone watching open-mouthed as a glass of red wine falls in slow motion onto the light colored rug or worse, onto your dress!

Rather than gape in awe, like most people witnessing the aforementioned scene, The Diva remains calm and slightly amused.  Depending on the situation at hand, The Diva has a few different methods of wine stain removal that she regularly employs.  Hopefully, with these tips, the next time you witness a slow-motion wine event, you’ll be the one in the room who is casually smirking and bemused.

Remedy #1:

Quick!  Grab the closest glass of white wine, and DUMP it on the red wine stain!  …well, don’t dump the glass, just slowly and gently blot the stain with a white wine soaked cloth until it is removed.  Believe it or not, white wine will neutralize red wine.  The Diva recommends this method on rugs and upholstery, as the use of chemical cleaners can damage or permanently bleach a fabric or rug.

Remedy #2:

Two words: Oxy Clean.  This amazing product is NO JOKE!  Oxy Clean can even remove wine stains that have set in for weeks without being pre-treated.  This is fabulous news for your wine stained clothes!  The Diva adds one scoop of Oxy Clean to every load of laundry; the Oxy Clean is effective in color and white laundry loads, never bleaching or dulling the color of her clothes.

Oxy Clean is also useful for rug stain treatment.  Follow the directions on the container, diluting a small amount of powdered Oxy Clean into a bowl or container of warm water.  Lightly rub the stain with a cloth as you moisten the stained area.  Let the affected area of the rug dry for a while – walk away so it doesn’t bother you.  Revisit the stain, and repeat the treatment, when you feel like it!  The second visit usually does the trick; however, sometimes a stain might need an extra treatment.  The Oxy Clean solution can also be used to pretreat and spot treat clothing.  Oxy Clean can sometimes be found in mini spray bottles and single use wet wipe sizes, which are perfect for fitting in Your Diva’s purse.  One never knows when a wine accident may occur!

Remedy #3:

If you can manage to find it, there is a product called Wine Out.  Just like its name, this product gets the Wine Out. Follow the instructions on the Wine Out bottle, whichever ones best pertain to your stain.  Wine Out is regularly available at Bed Bath and Beyond, near the checkout section, where it easily and often missed by most shoppers.  Like Oxy Clean, you can sometimes find this product in a size capable of fitting in an evening bag.   Wine Out is excellent if you’re on the go, if you’re having a party involving red wine and white carpets, or you’re anticipating a random red wine accident in your near future.

Nevermore shall you worry about what falls outside of the glass, for it’s what’s inside that counts!

Not correct. The Unioversity of California Davis did THE Red Wine Stain Removal study and Stain Rx (a.k.a. Erado-Sol) was the best ready to use product they tried. It BEAT: WINE OUT, WINE AWAY, Salt, White Wine, Spray ‘n Wash, Vinegar/Dawn liquid/Rubbing Alcohol and more. You won’t beleive what else it does – read on: Stain Rx (a.k.a. Erado-Sol) is the best stain remover out there. I have been using it on red wine stains since 1969. Just touch it to red wine, iodine, berries (INCLUDING POMEGRANATE), fruit punch, cranberry juice, and the stains disappear in a second. Stains such as mascara, lipstick, blood, balsamic vinegar, vanilla extract and others come out with a little massaging and rinsing. Soak your diamond, gold and platinum jewelry in it for 20 minutes to overnight, you won’t believe it! By the way, the University of California – Davis did a study on red wine stain removal and the #1, ready to use winner was Stain Rx (a.k.a. Erado-Sol). It killed Wine Away which is available everywhere. Go to http://www.StainRx.com to see what else it does.

I’ve also found that if you dump soda water on a wine spill as soon as possible after it happens, the bubbles will pull the wine out of the carpet so it’s easy to blot up. My step-dad is a red-wine-loving klutz, so my parents have to employ this method quite frequently!

Nice post! Red wine stains are really some of the most stubborn ones and they have to be treated as soon as the wine is spilled. If you cannot deal with them, though, you can always call some professional cleaner Enfield.
